Evolution Korea
For a long time, the Korean scientific community resisted working with creationists due to the fear of giving the movement more credence. But silence is no anymore an option.
The STR has been fighting to get evolution-related content from textbooks, including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestor bird. This is only one aspect of the development paradigm's evolution.
What is Evolution?

Evolution is a theory of science that explains changes in genetic characteristics over time. The theory is based upon the fact that living creatures adapt to their environment, which may result in variations in genes or entire genomes. Over many generations, these changes can lead to the emergence new species. Natural selection is the predominant theory of evolution. It explains how people with traits that are advantageous are more likely to reproduce and survive than those with less favorable traits. This differing reproduction may be a catalyst to the creation and evolution of new species.
The word "evolution" comes from the Latin word"evolution" which means unraveling or revealing, however the concept has had a variety of meanings since it took shape in the sciences and other fields. Early evolutionists like Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predetermined to change into a new species. Etienne Geoffroy St.Hilaire was Lamarck's embryologist disciple who coined the term "transmutation" to describe this view. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, attacked the idea of evolution, and borrowed the term from Geoffroy's student.
Evolutionary biologists define evolution more recently as a process through which living creatures develop traits to improve their chances of living or conceiving offspring. In time, genetic variation can cause a population to acquire new physical characteristics or biological functions. Natural selection is the process that drives most evolutionary changes. Other changes that aren't genetic, such as an increase in muscle mass from exercise or diet, cannot be considered evolution because they aren't passed on to future generations.
Despite the fact that evolution has withstood the test of time and thousands of scientific studies, creationists have seized on the idea that evolution is controversial to argue that it should not be taught in school. In South Korea, creationists have had a few wins in their fight to remove evolution from high school textbooks which includes the removal of any references to the evolutionary history of humans as well as the Archaeopteryx feathered dinosaur believed to be the ancestral bird's parent.
Why is Evolution Important for Humanity?
Evolution explains how the Earth and all its living species came to be. It is also a fundamental part of biology, and aids scientists comprehend how living organisms operate and develop. Evolution also shows how various species are interconnected. Scientists study evolution in order to better comprehend nature and make valuable discoveries like new drugs.
The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. No other scientific theory can explain as much about the universe and life on our planet. It has been thoroughly studied and verified for many years. Many people, and even religious leaders, are in support of the scientific theory. It is crucial to keep in mind that evolutionary biology does not interfere with religious beliefs since it only addresses physical objects, events and processes.
In fact many religious individuals have come up with ways to reconcile their beliefs with the theory of evolution. Some Christians for instance, believe that God created everything through evolution, and that humans share a common ancestry to other animals.
It is important that science educators advocate for the teaching of evolution. In some countries, the opposition to evolution has been growing. In the United States some states have taken steps to limit teaching of evolution. In South Korea, a group called the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC) is pushing for textbooks that cover the evolution of horses and their ancestral avian species Archaeopteryx.
Although these are alarming changes, it's important to keep in mind that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a diverse range of sources, including fossils, genetic studies and the behavior of living organisms. Other scientists independently verify the evidence.
The majority of scientists agree with the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this belief are diverse. Certain scientists study evolution to make practical discoveries such as developing new drugs or enhancing existing ones. Others do this to improve the quality of animal and plant species, mostly to benefit of humans. Some scientists are just curious, while others hold a an intense faith in God.
What is Creationism?
Creationists are people who believe that God created the universe and everything in it. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken as such. Although Creationists may not all be Christian however, they are a majority. Creationists typically fall into two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).
YECs are the most well known form of creationist, and they believe that God created the world in the exact way described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of six days of creation was true and that the universe and the life on Earth were created just recently.
OECs are less well known however they're just as enthusiastic about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and Earth are billions-of-years old and that evolution is a lie.
Both types of creationism reject the notion that scientific theories such as natural selection and abiogenesis can explain the origins of life on Earth. They claim that evolution is not possible because it requires an extraordinary event, and that the scientists who founded modern science shied away from miracles due to fear of losing credibility.
Some creationists are able to accept both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and refer to their view "theistic evolution." This is also referred to as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of the created species." The theory says that God creates species from scratch and then allows these to change over time. These evolutionary changes will eventually produce new species similar to the original.
Other creationists believe that God created the universe and all living things in a single event, called the Great Flood. These creationists believe that the first species were created at the same time, and that they evolved gradually afterward. They also deny the notion of abiogenesis, and argue that the emergence of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is impossible.
In general, the creationists oppose the teaching of evolution at schools. Numerous professional organizations, such as the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education endorse this view as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. However, some researchers and educational institutions are more flexible, and permit the inclusion of creationism and evolution in their curriculum.
What is Creationism in Korea?
When people think about creationism, they often think of the United States. However, South Korea is also home to an anti-evolution movement. The publishers of textbooks for high school students have recently announced that they will eliminate references to evolution from their textbooks. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR) is the one who has led this campaign. The STR has won its first victory by removing from textbooks evidence of the evolution and ancestor of the avian, called the Archeopteryx. Its sights are now set on removing snippets of Darwin's notorious finch research and on human evolution as well.
STR claims to have the support of 4,000 families as well as individual members. 무료 에볼루션 , according to STR, is to rid the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which paints an image of students as being negative. It also seeks to counter the influence of American creationists who live in the US. A survey of trainee biology teachers revealed that a majority do not believe in evolution. The reasons for this aren't entirely certain, but could be related to religion or the absence of creation scientists in the United States.
The KACR achieved many things through its seminars and lectures in the past. It publishes a bimonthly journal called Creation and the book. The most notable of these is a text on the natural sciences, with an orthodox creationist perspective, which attracted the attention of college communities. In 1991, a professor, along with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.
On August 7 and 8, 1993, coinciding with the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from abroad, including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin addressed thousands of people. KACR and its members have given lectures on creation science at major seminaries, too. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
